ALL IN THE DETAILS: Grunge Girl

The ’90s grunge look has been everywhere, and it doesn’t look like this trend will end any time soon. When I saw this Fashionista’s outfit, I knew I wanted to feature it. I’ve loved all the ’90s looks that I have been seeing around campus and all over the fashion blogs. There are so many ways to add ’90s pieces to make an outfit trendy.

Graphic T- shirts are always in fashion, but just pairing them with leggings or jeans can become boring. Dressing it up with other pieces and accessories is an easy way to make it look like you put a lot more effort into your outfit, even if it just means throwing a necklace or jacket on.

Now that cold weather is here, denim jackets are a staple in any Fashionista/o’s closet. This Fashionista wears her denim jacket paired with a black T-shirt that highlights the grunge/skater aesthetic. The light wash of the jacket pairs perfectly with her black skinny jeans and black T-shirt. All these pieces individually are pretty simple, but the way this Fashionista pairs them together creates a more attention-grabbing, grunge look.

What I love about her outfit are the small details that pull the whole ensemble together. Her dainty septum ring adds a touch of femininity, but the piercing also adds to the overall tough look. The clear-framed glasses are a fun alternative to regular black frames and also brings out her bright blue eyes. She also is wearing a small bracelet with a lavender jade stone that she received from Guatemala. A small piece that has meaning behind it is always a good way to create conversation.

Suede booties with a small heel instead of sneakers are a perfect way to make this outfit look more put together and adds a more fashionable element. She cuffs her black washed jeans to show off the booties. In this snowy Indiana weather, jeans with holes are sometimes just way too cold, but the frayed bottoms rolled up still create a distressed look.

So throw on a denim jacket, embrace that ’90s grunge style, and stay warm out there Fashionistas/os!
