So it seems that the cold has come for an indefinite stay, but are scarves the size of camping blankets really necessary to stay stylish and warm? I rediscovered a classic accessory that is worth paying attention to whether you go to college on the sunny West Coast or layer through another sub-zero winter. I’m talking about the silk scarf.
If you’re not 100 percent on board, I’ll say that wearing a silk scarf honestly makes you feel like a glamorous, old Hollywood starlet. You are still protected from the chill, and never again will you have to choose fashion over comfort. There are endless ways to style a silk scarf, but I’ll show you the five foolproof ways I wear mine out.
First of all, I wear mine as a choker, which was revamped last year. Transition this party favorite into the new year with a unique spin. Tie the scarf at the nape of your neck and tuck in excess fabric and you have yourself a homemade choker.
Next, I create a loose knot look. This look is absolutely perfect for days when all you want to do is throw on a plain white T-shirt but want a little razzle dazzle. Simply tie in a knot around your neck then loosen to whatever length your heart desires.
I also create a look I like to call “the French.” My personal favorite, I love to wear this look when I need an extra dose of fabulous in my life. Tie the scarf tightly then throw one end of the scarf over your shoulder and I guarantee you’ll instantly feel like Brigitte Bardot.
For days when your hair is less than forgiving, wrap the scarf a couple of inches away from your hairline then tie it tightly under your mass of hair (in my case). This creates a look I like to call “the rainy day.”
Lastly, “the waist” is a look for the kind of girl who loses belts more often than she can hold them. This is the most convenient trick; all you have to do is just loop the scarf around and tie in multiple knots around your waist. If you don’t want the ends sticking out, just tuck them back into the belt loop for a more classic belted look.
