STYLE GURU STYLE: Chic and Warm

Winter is in full swing, which means long coats and layers. The chilly weather brings bundling up to stay warm, but that doesn’t have to be sacrificing style to avoid the cold.

Winter is one of my favorite seasons because it means I can wear my favorite wardrobe; layers on layers of blacks and grays with a few neutrals here and there. Although I will always wear my blacks and grays regardless of the season, winter is my favorite time to rock it.

On the dark, cold early mornings of winter when I simply want to stay in bed and sleep until spring, I find myself wanting to wear something comfy, yet, be chic. Many people turn to leggings and a sweatshirt with an addition of rain boots if the weather determines it, but I prefer otherwise. I pick out a warm pair of dark denim, usually black denim jeans, paired with a soft cotton T-shirt or sweater with a long coat and a sporty touch of Nikes. It’s a combination of comfort, layers, and chic that doesn’t sacrifice style for warmth.

While this is one of my go-to combinations of clothes, I love the diversity of outfits that winter enables me to wear. I always wear a long coat to help protect my legs from the cold, but that doesn’t mean I shy away from wearing a dress during those brisk days. A go-to black dress paired with above-the-knee knit stockings or laced tights and booties, or an oversized sweater and some denim with a few rips are always great options.

Although winter brings out a different wardrobe, that doesn’t mean chic outfits need to stay hidden in the wardrobe to collect dust. Take risks and try something new for a new season.
