Hello everyone! My name is Nathalia and I am very excited to be a Style Guru for the spring 2017 semester! So I’ll start by telling you all a little about myself. I’m currently a senior about to start her last semester at San Francisco State University. I am majoring in psychology with a minor in Latina/o studies. I was in the Netherlands studying abroad during fall semester, but I’m now back in the Bay area where I was born and raised!
My love for fashion began when I was around 12 years old. My mom’s boss at the time was the definition of style perfection. I remember peeking into her walk-in closet and admiring everything from her beautiful leather handbags to her neatly folded jeans. I was introduced to different brands such as Acne, Marc Jacobs and Citizens of Humanity. Through her outfits, closet, hand-me-downs, and gifts, I familiarized myself with the unique style of each brand until I was able to distinguish brand from brand. This was also around the age I had my first fashion obsession—Juicy Couture. I distinctly remember bugging my mom around the house, begging her for a pink velvet Juicy Couture tracksuit (hey, they were very “in” at this point okay?).
My love for fashion and shopping might also have to do with the fact that I wore a uniform from grades K-12. My freshman year of college was a turning point for me; I was finally able to buy clothing that I could wear on a regular basis! Although I do believe that some aspects of the fashion industry are quite shallow and there are many things that need to change, the thing I love about fashion is how it can bring confidence. I see fashion as an outlet, a way to express myself, a statement of who I am. One of the greatest feelings is wearing something you love and feeling amazing in it. Confidence is everything and everyone deserves to feel good about themselves. In the outfit pictured above, I’m wearing a black leather jacket over a stripped off-the-shoulder top with distressed boyfriend jeans.
Some of my hobbies include working out, although I like trying new foods and eating until I stuffed a little more… finding a balance between the two is something I am still trying to master. I love all kinds of music but have a soft spot for ’80s music (thanks, dad), and believe that one the greatest joys in life is discovering a new song, artist, or band that you just connect with. I love traveling and have major wanderlust that has temporarily been cured after living and traveling in Europe for the last couple months!
