Life during spring semester at the University of Arizona is the busiest and often when we see more people simply rolling out of bed and going to class. Granted, it’s college and we are all guilty of that at least once in our college careers. However, we did just come back from winter break and it was exciting to see everyone sporting their new clothes for the new year. I found this Fashionista and her look was unlike any other that I had yet seen on campus. After asking what her inspiration was for her look, she responded, “Wearing black doesn’t mean blending in.” She was so fearless and looked so powerful while heading for coffee with her friends.
By pairing camel colored joggers with a lacy black halter top, she looked effortlessly cool and relaxed. With a leather jacket, burgundy suede booties, a black beanie and round retro sunglasses, her look was beyond put together. She described fashion as being unique to yourself and that it was a way of being different. You don’t have to follow trends or buy exactly what the magazine says, but instead, create something that you feel good in.
College is a time of self-discovery, personally and academically. With this comes new self-expression that is fueled by believing in yourself and not letting fears of what people may think or anything else that might be holding you back. This doesn’t always pertain to style, but to everything you may come across in life. If you always stick with what you know, you never learn anything new! College gives us the opportunity to experiment, take risks, and grow. There are so many programs, countless clubs, lots of room for adventure and new experiences. You’re sure to find your tribe, and yes, your look!
My advice to anyone reading this: take a risk, whether that be applying for that dream internship, taking a spontaneous trip, learning a new language, or wearing something that you were too afraid to wear in the past. Go for it and challenge yourself; you will be amazed at the way you feel after you get out of your comfort zone. I know I will be adding being fearless to my New Year’s goals!
