Hey there, fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Sarah Fly and I am a fashion design major at the Fashion Institute of Technology right in the heart of Manhattan.
Being born in Houston and raised in Las Vegas has influenced my personal style to be a wild mix of the outlandish and very stylish. I have a keen eye for interesting silhouettes and blends of different textures, colors, and patterns. I am obsessed with pastels and playing around with statement pieces, which I plan to convey through the outfits I photograph.
Of course, I’ve always had the passion for fashion running through my blood when I was just a wee lad; I’d trot around in my mom’s heels and walk out the door playing dress up like nobody’s business while the world was my stage. Fashion is so much more than the fabrics we put on our skin, but a mere representation of who we are or who we want to be. It’s an art form that expresses our emotions and our persona. Like Rachel Zoe said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”
For this look, I decided to stick with a light color palette despite the usual dark neutral colors attributed to the winter season—I don’t believe in following a season’s color trends simply because fashion has no season. I made sure to layer up for the weather as NYC can get pretty chilly with a cozy infinity scarf and my favorite pink bow cap. Living in the Big Apple requires tons of walking, so I opted for my black sneakers and threw on a baby blue double breasted pea coat for extra warmth while topping it off with my polka dot handbag.
As this is my very first semester as one of CollegeFashionista’s Style Gurus, I am beyond thrilled to be a part of such a fabulous community and I can’t wait to share these empowering styles from my campus with you!
