Happy New Year Fashionistas/os! New year, new semester, same Melanie. This is my fourth semester as a Style Guru, and I am more excited than ever. This is because I have learned so much through this internship, and through my classes as a marketing major and fashion studies minor.
Let me start off by saying that I don’t have one set style, because it changes every day. One day I feel like being glamorous and reaching for a fur coat, and the next day I just want to bundle up in my biggest parka and blanket scarf. The weather has also been fluctuating a lot in New York this season, which often leaves me confused about what to wear.
I am slowly starting to incorporate pieces with loud prints, unique colors, and different silhouettes into my outfits. However, my basic blacks, whites, and grays will always have my heart. One can never go wrong with an all-black outfit, especially when living in New York.
Today was an unusually warm day, so I chose to go with a gingham print dress in a longer silhouette that grazed my knees. I love longline dresses and shirts because they look chic and can actually make me appear taller, when paired with the right accessories. I am also wearing my favorite pair of black ankle boots that feature a pointed toe and small heel. This is also one of my favorite jackets, that I have had for as long as I can remember. I own multiple biker jackets because they pair well with everything and have never let me down.
I added some metal details with my silver watch, which I think is a necessity for a busy lifestyle. I’m also wearing some silver jewelry in my cartilage and conch piercings. I keep my daily makeup pretty simple with a lightly bronzed face (summer come faster!) and a natural colored lipstick. I am also a huge fan of sharp eyeliner and tons of mascara.
I can’t wait to share more fashion articles with you guys this semester. I know it’ll be a #RAD one!
