Hello, fellow Fashionistas! I’m Savannah and this will be my first semester as a Style Guru. I hail from Texas, where I’m a freshman at Texas State University in San Marcos. I’m an electronic media and mass communication major, with a minor in journalism. My down-time is spent in a perfect movie montage of me drinking over-sugared coffees, scouring through Austin’s many thrift shops, or devouring Twitter threads of funny videos.
Pinpointing my specific style has been a challenge throughout the years. I love to try new trends, even the ones we all know to die too soon (I’m looking at you, bell bottom jeans). I tend to describe my own style as a mix between edgy and chic, with a heavy inspiration from ‘80s and ’90s movies and television. From Cher’s iconic ‘90s staple of plaid miniskirts and knee-high stockings in Clueless to the effortless chic looks of muted tones showcased by Denise Huxtable in The Cosby Show, my overall look has been culminated from the re-runs of my youth. I’ve always been enamored with movies and television, and it only makes sense for me to display my love of a certain character through what I wear.
Keeping it simple, I’m wearing a black, mock-neck turtleneck that could easily be from the ’90s, but the cropped look gives it a modern twist. These high-waisted jeans from Urban Outfitters are my absolute favorite pair, allowing me to balance comfort and style. Completing my look are my well-loved Adidas Superstar sneakers, which are perfect for running around campus in. I’m usually light on accessories, but I have my favorite gold star and moon earrings in for that unique touch.
I see fashion as an ever-changing art form. We’re allowed an opportunity to display how we feel, what we like, and who we are through what we wear. So why not have fun with it, right? Let’s make 2017 a rad year for exploring new fashions and opportunities!
