Hi Fashionistas/os! My name is Jackie Kearney and I am a freshman attending Northern Virginia Community College. I am hoping to transfer to VCU in Richmond, Virginia in the fall and study fashion merchandising. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I’m super stoked to get even more involved with the fashion world.
I’ve lived in Northern Virginia all of my life (right outside of D.C.) I travel to New York City a lot and am thinking about attending FIT if VCU doesn’t work out. I love being in a place where my fashion “comfort zone” is constantly being challenged and i’m pushed to wear more unique pieces or to take more risks through my fashion choices.
I am very excited to see what 2017 has in store. I’m stoked to see what new fashion trends emerge this year. 2016 was the revival of ’90s fashion with chokers, denim, and band T-shirts, so I’m excited to see what comes out of 2017.
I describe my style as “skater boy meets girl.” I love taking pieces like oversize flannels or men’s button down shirts and adding some girl flare to them by transforming men’s T-shirts into dresses with some knee high socks and cute booties. I’m also very into vintage pieces and making bold fashion choices through vintage pieces.
I absolutely love this suede fringe jacket. I picked this up at a vintage store in New York City and I love the ’70s feel it brings to an outfit. My band tee adds that tomboy flare I love bringing to an outfit. My western inspired black and silver accented belt adds a great touch to my outfit and my boot cut jeans from Free People definitely tie the vintage ’70s look together. I love the unfinished detailing on the bottom of the jeans because it really adds something to the outfit. I paired this outfit with some leather black booties from Topshop that go great with any outfit! I never really wear jewelry or unique makeup in order to let these amazing statement pieces really shine. I love taking unique pieces to really express myself through fashion!
