After a weekend tease of 60 degree weather, the reality of a northeast Ohio winter has officially hit us. Here in Kent, I don’t think we’ve seen the sun in over a week and the ground has been covered in snow. With this bitterly cold weather in the air, it can be hard to find the motivation to dress cute and trendy for class.
I spotted this Fashionista on her way to the architecture building wearing one of the most prominent trends here in Kent, layering. Layering is a great way to wear your favorite pieces while also staying warm. Layering is a great option for class because you can be bundled up for your walk to class and you’ll be able to take off pieces throughout the day as needed. This Fashionista paired a black tank top with a darker-toned flannel. She topped all of that off with a gray flowy cardigan. She paired those tops with a pair of basic blue jeans. These items were all purchased at American Eagle Outfitters, a great place to find staple layering pieces for your wardrobe.
We also see her showing off the layering trend in her choice of jewelry. She layered a dainty triangular necklace with a longer statement necklace. A great way to get the layered necklace look without the hassle of putting on three necklaces is to purchase one that has the layering already done for you. Then she layered on some of her favorite Alex and Ani bracelets and finally added some rings. This a great way to show off all your favorite jewelry when you can’t just choose one piece.
As for the shoes, sometimes we must sacrifice the warmth of our feet so we can wear those shoes that will look perfect with our outfit. This Fashionista finished off her outfit with a pair of black Steve Madden slip-on sneakers.
My biggest tip for layering would be to start out with a tighter undershirt and have your pieces gradually get larger, allowing you to show off your figure or cover up more if you wish to do that. When deciding if you should throw on that extra layer in the morning the answer is always yes because if worse comes to worst you can use that extra layer as a blanket during class!
