So you don’t have a guy in your life? So what! You have something even better—your besties. Boyfriends come and go, but your ladies are by your side through every initial text message exchange, first kiss, and painful heartbreak. So instead of spending the day sulking and cursing the day your ex was born, celebrate the love you do have in your life by throwing the ultimate “Galentine’s Day.”
You don’t need to show up with a bouquet of hand-crocheted flower pens, a mosaic portrait of your friends made from crushed bottles of her favorite diet soda, and personalized 5,000 word essay of why they’re each so awesome. (But I mean, if you wanted go full-blown Leslie Knope, go for it!)
You also don’t have to resort to traditional Valentine’s Day mores and clichés, either. Galentine’s Day should be as authentic and RAD as your girl gang. Here is our suggestion on how to spend one of our favorite day of the year—Galentine’s Day!
1. Start the day right: Surprise your Galentine with breakfast in bed. Because nothing says “I am in friend love with you” like a stack of pancakes and early morning pillow talk. (Photo via @oomathurmann)
2. Celebrate your common bond: Do you both love yoga purely for the savasana? Are famous for your Pinterest baking fails? Are you secret grandmas who have mean whipstitch? No matter how obscure your shared favorite activity is, today is the day to do it together. (Photo via @lindathaomusic)
3. Say it with sweets: You know what is even better than a compliment? A compliment written on a cookie. Let your bestie know how awesome she is by writing it in royal icing. (Photo via @gisele_milan)
4. The only acceptable heart decorations: If there is anything you and your BFF love more than each other it is a good dose of caffeine. Go on a friend date to your local coffee shop and cheers to one another with an almond milk latte topped with a foam heart. (Photo via @valeriecammack)
5. Make a mix: Because no real holiday is complete unless you make a playlist to commemorate it. Personalize it with songs that have special meaning to you and your besties. Wilson Phillips, anyone? (Photo via @sumaiyahhh)
6. Roses are…: … so cliché. Give your Galentine a bushel of sunflowers or an adorable succulent to let her know you get and appreciate her vibe. (Photo via @bybrendab)
7. Chick(s) flicks: Instead of curling up, watching “The Notebook” and spending the rest of your evening in a pile of tears and Kleenex, pick a flick that celebrates iconic female friendships, like yours. Stream “Clueless” or “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” and leave the sappy stuff for the other 364 days of the year. (Photo via @brisaamarr)
