For those of us in the Midwest, we just can’t seem to grab hold of some spring weather. With this back and forth transition between warm and cold weather, Fashionistas find themselves in a constant internal battle of “what do I wear today?”
So on a cold day in the middle of March, when I was bundled up in my parka and scarf, I came across this look on campus that instantly grabbed my attention. The warm, fall inspired color scheme made me realize that just because spring is coming doesn’t mean we have to pack away our wintery clothes just yet.
This look served up some major style inspiration, and led me to create a little guide on what to wear when the cold weather just won’t seem to kick it. First, let’s start with the jeans. This Fashionista chose a pair of skinny, dark wash jeggings. This was the perfect choice because of the neutral colors on top. Plus, the comfortable material makes it ideal for a busy day of classes and meetings.
Next, the task of picking a top can sometimes be the most difficult part, especially with the changing temperatures. This Fashionista chose a simple, beige sweater with a detailed neckline. The material was thin enough to fit under a tailored coat, but just thick enough to handle the chilly winds. The tie up front was a cool touch to take place of neck accessories.
To wrap up the look, the Fashionista layered on a multi-toned scarf that matched perfectly with her tan coat. She pulled it all together with a pair of sleek, leather booties.
An easy way to take this look from winter to spring is to remove the thick coat and scarf (obviously!). Then pair the beige sweater with a pair of light wash or white boyfriend jeans. Next, choose a pair of casual sneakers, slip-ons, or sandals. If you want to play with some accessories, add a thin, decorative scarf for a pop of color. To complete the look if the weather is still a bit chilly, just throw on a trench coat and you’re ready to head out the door!
