ALL IN THE DETAILS: Bundled Up

I’m currently sitting in the Kent State University Fashion School watching inches of snow fall on this freezing mid-March afternoon. The entire northeastern U.S. is being covered in a blanket of snow despite the first day of spring on the calendar for next week. This weather forecast plus northern Ohio’s famous 60 mph wind makes for a very interesting walk to class every morning. While I am sporting an oversize sweatshirt, leggings, a massive coat, and snow boots, I can’t help but admire the girls on my campus who don’t let this terrible weather get in the way of putting on a cute outfit.

When I do muster up the energy to put together a stylish, cold weather look, my main focus is always on layering. I love throwing a T-shirt over a long sleeve shirt, topped with a cardigan and coat, and doubling up on the leggings and pants as well. I was so drawn to this Fashionista’s outfit because she executed the “bundled up” look perfectly. She’s rocking a mustard sweater over a striped turtleneck. Then, she tied it all together with a patterned scarf and a pair of cuffed mom jeans. A pair of fun, fuzzy socks is always a must-have when the temperature is below freezing, as well as wearing them with basic black booties.

It can be so tempting to throw on a comfy groutfit when the weather is bad, but it’s amazing what a colorful outfit can do to your mood and to those around you. When you look outside and all you see is white and gray, it’s nice to see a bright yellow sweater or someone bundled in a crazy scarf. So before throwing on your sweats and beanie before class, consider using pieces with different colors and patterns to layer up and make a unique outfit. You may be surprised at how good you’ll feel.
