Contrary to popular belief, all college students don’t wear sweatpants to class. (I mean, if that were the case, CollegeFashionista wouldn’t exist!) College students all over the world are dressing up and making the campus their runway. But where you go to school definitely influences how you dress; creating a fashion culture and identity that is unique to each and every college and university. If you had to describe your own college’s fashion sense in one sentence, what would you say?
Well, that’s what we tasked seven of our CollegeFashionista Style Gurus with doing. From east to west, there’s no doubt that no two campuses are alike. Here is just a sampling of some of the fashion climates on campuses around the world.
“For the most part, I think that the fashion on my campus has a lot to do with Southern influences and brands.”—Madeleine Howell, University of Georgia
“Style on my campus is refreshingly diverse, from New England prep to Midwest hipster, we have it all.”—Erin Mathews, Columbus University
“The style at my school is really varied and gorgeous in my opinion because people aren’t afraid to wear what they want, even regardless of the weather.”—Sonya Gande, Rutgers University
“My college has a very distinct divide between people who care a lot about fashion and keep up with trends, and people who don’t give a fig.”—Kelsey McLean, Wells College
“Our fashion climate is relative to the weather meaning lots of casual, warm weather-friendly looks complete with a pair of stylish sunnies.”—Rachel Park, University of California, San Diego
“You get to see so many different styles + trends and sometimes it’s interesting to see how different people rock the same clothing item but add their own twist to it.”—Samu Sibiya, LISOF Design & Retail Academy
“GW style is very city chic: you’ve got a mix of professional wear and street style on campus [and] everyone is looking to represent their best selves through their apparel.”—Taylor Hale, George Washington University.
