Summer weather—while gorgeous—can often bring mixed feelings. Here in North Carolina, it’s no secret that the heat and humidity can be practically unbearable throughout the summer. And, while I can’t fix the heat problem, I can give you Fashionistas/os some helpful tips on how to dress for those particularly hot days so you won’t compromise style or comfort this summer!
- Light colors are your friend.
I cannot even tell you how many times I’ve made the mistake of wearing black on hot summer days-never again! If you have the option to choose a top in a lighter color, I highly suggest you take it. It may not seem like it makes a difference but it really does. I chose a white and blue lace top for my summer look, and even though I was outside in the afternoon, I still felt cool! - Buy tops you don’t have to layer.
I know this one can be hard to follow since sheer blouses are all the rage right now, but this tip is important. Wearing extra layers can really add up in the summer. If you have a sheer top you wanna wear, go for a cute bralette or bandeau. They come in all sorts of colors and materials, so it’s easy to find one that works well with your outfit.
- Cute and versatile sandals are a must.
Vans and sneakers can look super trendy, but if you’re trying to beat the heat, sandals are your go-to. Make sure you get the right pair of comfy, cute, and versatile sandals. The sandal wedges I’m wearing in this outfit are deceptively comfortable and I can wear them with any outfit. - Find bottoms that aren’t jeans.
You might be thinking I completely disregarded this tip because I’m wearing jeans in this outfit, but I’m actually wearing pants made out of a thinner material. I’d recommend shorts for most days of summer, but take the time to look for linen or other light materials. Linen shorts are really chic and are easy to wear night or day. - It’s all about the eye protection.
I’m sure you’ve heard it from your parents before, but don’t forget your sunglasses! Not only do they add mystery and make you look like a real trendsetter, they protect you and one of your best features. Whether aviator, round, square, or cat eye, just bring them along. You’ll be glad you didn’t forget them. - Purse size matters.
Oversized leather totes are really trendy right now and, let’s admit it, so gorgeous. However, for summer style, a smaller bag is much more suitable. You can find nice clutches at any department store or boutique. (My suggestion is to look for a clutch that has a strap included).
