Looking for a fun day trip this summer? New York City is abundant with activities, entertainment, and dining. However, with so many options, it can be overwhelming and difficult to decide exactly what to do. It is helpful to focus on one area of the city in particular to better narrow down your options. Fortunately, I have already done this for you and I compiled a list of the top four places to visit in one my favorite neighborhoods of NYC: Chelsea. Located on the West Side of Manhattan, Chelsea is filled with history, entertainment, museums, and great food! Continue reading to find out about some of the best spots to visit when in Chelsea.
1. FIT Museum
The Fashion Institute of Technology’s museum showcases rotating exhibitions, usually lasting three to four months each. The garments on display are always amazing to see, and they are especially fascinating for anyone with a passion for fashion! Located on 227 W. 27th Street, it is a short walk from Penn Station and definitely worth a visit.
2. The High Line Park
One of the most popular parks in the city, the High Line is an old railroad line transformed into a beautiful park. It provides millions of residents and tourists an escape from the busy streets of the city and gives them a chance to be immersed among nature and great views. Running from Gansevoort Street up to 34th Street, the park runs for 1.45 miles, with eleven entrances spread throughout. Along the path you will not only find beautiful scenic views of the streets of Chelsea, but also benches, murals, food vendors, and shops.
3. Chelsea Market
Chelsea Market is located on 9th Ave, between 15th and 16th Street. It is best known for its food, shopping, and rich history within NYC’s meatpacking district. A go-to place for any foodie, with over 35 vendors, you are bound to find numerous delicious eating spots. One of my favorites is Beyond Sushi, a vegan sushi joint serving a variety of plant-based rolls, noodles, salads, and more. Remember that whenever you are at Chelsea Market, you should always save room for dessert. If you are a gelato lover like me, then I suggest trying L’Arte del Gelato—authentic, fresh, and flavorful (and perfect for some cute Instagram pictures!)
4. The Whitney MuseumÂ
By far one of my favorites museums in NYC is the Whitney Museum of American Art. Located on 99 Gansevoort St., the museum focuses on 20th and 21st century art. It is a great place to visit and offers both a large permanent collection and frequent exhibitions. I definitely recommend going to all of the rooftop balconies, ideally on a warm and sunny day, to capture the best views of Chelsea.
