A few months ago, Into The Gloss dubbed Essie’s Clambake the color of the summer. Suddenly my Instagram was flooded with photos of this bright hue, and for good reason—it captured the season perfectly. Yet I realized when reflecting upon Essie’s choice that finding a nail polish that perfectly fit the cold-weather months was not quite as easy, considering anything that screams “winter” tends to be avoided by pretty much everyone. But if you’re a nail polish aficionado like me, flaunting my bare nails while battling the freezing wind is just not my thing. So I set out to find the hues you need to try while you’re waiting for longer days and sunshine to return. Here are six winter nail colors to inspire you while you’re waiting on the gloomy season to end.
Get Moody in a Pitch Black Shade
It may seem cliché to wear dark colors in winter, but they’re a staple for a reason. A black or dark purple hue matches the season perfectly and will go with everything in your cold-weather closet without fail.

Think Spring With Millennial Pink
Don’t let tradition deter you from experimenting with classic spring colors in the winter. Try a light pink like the one above for a your-nails-but-better look.

Keep It Simple With a Muted Tone
A good way to ease into more traditionally spring colors is by going for a bright hue in a muted tone. This mauve-y nude shade is the perfect way to branch out from the purples and dark blues of the season without looking like you totally forgot it’s winter.

Go Bold With a Vivid Orange
If you’re feeling really adventurous, pick a bright color and build your outfit around it. It may feel too in-your-face at first, but every time you peep your matching look during the day, you’ll grow to love it even more.

Stay Classic in a Shiny Gray
Matte finishes have certainly made their rounds in the nail polish world. But if you want to try a classic color while keeping it light and fresh, opt for a shiny top coat to really pack in the punch.
