I have a confession: I don’t have Netflix. Or any streaming platform for that matter. Gasp. I know, it’s crazy, and most people wonder what I do if there aren’t any series I spend my time binge-watching. The reality is, I read, and while I can appreciate a good movie or show, books always come first for me. Little did I know, that there are a bunch of people in our community and here at CF HQ that love reading, too.
After finding out this fabulous tidbit of information, our community engagement associate, Norah, and I teamed up to create the first ever CF Book Club. To kick off the new club, I checked in with everyone at our NYC office about the authors and books they love cozying up with. Below are their picks for fiction, literary journalism, career help, and everything in between.

Favorite book: The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg ($15).
Why? This book dives deep into the power of making habits and the science behind changing them for the better. If you’re one who has a tough time sticking to a workout routine or making your bed in the morning, this book is bound to change your life, one small habit at a time. Creating these routines can also set you up for success in every aspect of your life—including your career.

Why? “It’s not your typical high school love story and shines a light on the reality of mental illness, not to mention it’s well written and the main characters, Violet and Finch, are both so lovable. This book is guaranteed to make you cry but also show there’s light at the end of any tunnel. It’s a really great read.” —Norah Murphy

Favorite book: Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney ($12)
Why? “Within the first few pages, it was clear that this novel would be unlike most others I read: a lack of quotation marks (blending dialogue with inner thoughts of the narrator), restrained, intentionally-limited prose that aimed to mimic the mindset of the first-person narrator, and a casual simplicity of plot. There are not flashbacks or interweaving of separate character consciousnesses, and the texting/emailing place this book firmly fit in the space of today’s world. It’s the best book!” —Alice Burnett
