Let’s face it. For some of us, haircare is our livelihood. It doesn’t matter if you have curly, straight, thin or thick hair, everyone has their own routine. I had long, thick hair for the first 18 years of my life. But once I hit college, I decided to do the big chop. And though I loved those few months of easy maintenance and fun hairstyles, I now find myself missing my long flowing mane. Rather than wait for my hair to grow back naturally, I decided to do some research on how to not only grow my hair back fast but also better than before. So sit back, relax, and keep on reading for some great tips on how to make your hair grow faster and healthier.
- Practice patience. I would be first in line to admit that I’m one of those people that expect their hair to grow overnight. Unfortunately, wishing your hair would grow faster won’t make it grow faster. But once you grasp that it’ll take time, you can officially start your journey to healthier and longer hair.
- Make conditioner your best friend. Properly washing your hair is crucial. Conditioner should be automatic when you wash your hair as it helps maintain the proteins in your hair. It also prevents further damage from happening.
- Master the art of the comb. Whether it’s after you get out of the shower or a routine brush-through in the morning, combing your hair should be carefully done. The best way is to start at the bottom and detangle the knots as you work your brush upwards. This prevents breakage, fallout, and saves you a lot of painful tugs.
- Toss your towels to the side. If you’re anything like me, you not only rub your hair dry with a towel after a shower but also wrap your hair in the said towel. This is a big no-no as most towels are coarse and will facilitate maximum hair breakage. Instead, use a soft cotton T-shirt or a microfiber cloth.
- Embrace the oil. A common item in most people’s hair care arsenal is oil, and for good reason. Whether it be macadamia, argan, or even coconut, the lists of oils that you can use on your hair is endless. An oil will moisturize your hair and build up its overall strength.
- Edit your diet. The health of your hair is closely related to what your diet consists of. To promote a healthy long mane, you should stick to a heavy protein regime. Foods like avocados, eggs, and salmon are great and packed with protein.
- Say goodbye to hot water. After all this time, I never knew the temperature of my showers affected the health of my hair. It turns out that hot water weakens your hair’s structural integrity. This leads to many knots and tons of hair loss. Try to wash your hair with lukewarm water and then a quick flash of cold water at the end to close up the hair follicles.
- Turn to the pantry. Some people prefer a much more DIY-kind of treatment when it comes to their hair. Hair masks made from fruits and vegetables have gained a lot of popularity over the years. Combinations such as avocado and banana or and yogurt and honey are some of the most well known. They’ve been shown to be very effective at achieving that shiny, healthy hair glow.
- Recognize the power of the vitamin. Sometimes we need a little help when it comes to trying to better a part of our body, and for hair, vitamins work wonders. Vitamins A and C are key to facilitating healthy hair growth. Not having enough of these nutrients can leave your hair thin and prone to breakage.
- Turn off the flat-iron. Everyone loves to style their hair; it’s just fact. However, heated styling tools are unforgiving and will easily burn your hair to a crisp. A good rule of thumb is to stay away from heated styling tools. If you do use them, make sure to use a heat-protectant spray on your hair before turning on that curling iron.
- Take frequent trips to the salon. Yes, it’s true. In order to have longer hair, you need to cut it. Although this may sound counterproductive, regularly trimming your hair is paramount. Routine trims help prevent split ends from getting worse and maintains the overall health of your hair.
