Hello my lovely Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Eva, and I am currently a junior at the University of Minnesota. Though it took me a couple of semesters to decide on my major, I ended up choosing Journalism—something I had always been fond of from the second I picked up my first magazine as a child.
There is something about opening up a magazine for the first time—the crisp, glossy pages, the colorful and detailed pictures and the writing. It’s like entering an entirely different world and, of course, my favorite world would be the one of fashion—one filled with eye-catching clothing, bold jewelry and funky shoes.
My love for fashion started as a young girl. As kids, my sister and I would spend hours rummaging though our bins of dress up clothes—something most little girls did at our age. We would, however, take this dress up session to a whole other level, putting on runway shows for our family members, and using our “high tech” (or so we thought) Kodak camera to photograph our outfits. These pictures came in handy when we created our very own fashion magazine, which I recently stumbled upon while cleaning out our childhood closet.
As I got older, my love for fashion grew, though I was sometimes afraid to wear some of my more fashionable pieces, fearing what my peers would think. When I started college, and I grew more confident in myself, I decided that I was going to wear whatever I wanted to wear. Now my motto is dress for yourself and not for anyone else.
Everyone is unique, and everyone’s fashion choices are different. For me, clothes tell a story and are a way of expressing oneself. As a Style Guru last semester, I was able to capture these outfits on my camera and tell each Fashionista’s story.
I am now in my second semester as a Style Guru, and I cannot wait to continue what I started in the fall. Documenting the fashions around my campus was one of the highlights of my semester, and I was so inspired by all of the Fashionistas/os I found. I saw myself opening up to new fashions, wearing bolder pieces and feeling even more confident in my more “out there” outfit choices.
I am so excited to capture all of the fashions on my campus. So put on your most fashionable outfit, and strut around campus like it’s your runway. My camera lens is waiting for you!
