Hello, Fashionista/os! I am excited to be joining CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru intern this semester searching for trendsetters around campus. I am a senior English major with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Spanish at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania.
While I now study in Pennsylvania, I grew up in Princeton, New Jersey watching the university students walk through town in their unique styles of preppy, hipster, grunge and alternative on and off campus. It amazes me that one staple item like a simple white T-shirt can be transformed so many different ways to fit each of those styles, while still portraying the wearer’s own personality.
There are a number of fashion outlets to explore, whether it is online through the media, seeing other fashionable students on campus or traveling to different states and countries. I have been exposed to the attention-grabbing fashions of Paris, Amsterdam and London and the incredible atmospheres surrounding them. Styles are always being transformed and redirected, modernized and brought back from past eras.
In retail it is always interesting watching which products sell the best and which designs are completely looked over. One minute a certain dress is constantly sought after and the next it is left behind for a colorful blazer. For our generation, it couldn’t be easier to remake our personal style and fashion identity. Compared to societal boundaries in place before, it is relatively simple to change who we are on the outside with a new hairstyle, different wardrobe or makeup.
I look forward to finding these new trendsetters and more on my own campus. I’m always searching for those students who know a thing or two about color blocking and accessorizing to put their best-shoed foot forward when they walk around campus. Be on the lookout for my articles on Tuesdays when new Fashionista/os will be revealed.
