Hello there, my gorgeous Fashionistas and handsome Fashionistos! My name is Annie Mulloy, and I am a junior Marketing major at Saint Vincent College! This is my first semester writing as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve been following CollegeFashionista for quite some time now, and I’ve taken a great interest in the personal style of students and how they wear the latest trends. It is my hope that by writing new fashion articles every week, I can add a bit of zeal and flavor to your every day routine and also provide some fun outfit inspiration.
Now it’s time to talk a little bit more about me. I’m a happy-go-lucky, brunette from the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia. I have a serious coffee addiction, I’m a crafting connoisseur and I love anything that sparkles. I find it difficult to describe my personal sense of style because it is always evolving and changing. You could see me wearing a dress and heels on one day and then a beanie and oversized sweater the next. To me, style is about experimentation and having fun. I try to buy classic pieces that can mixed and matched with many outfits, but I still enjoy splurging on the latest trends when I can.
Growing up, I didn’t always know how to dress myself. Being homeschooled up until the eighth grade, my mom picked out most of my outfits. And yes, I wore homeschool jumpers until I was about twelve years old (hello, maxi skirts). For high school, I went to a private school with a strictly enforced dress code. Not having the freedom to wear what I wanted every day gave me a greater appreciation for style and being able to express it when I could. I remember as a little girl, cutting out pages of magazines and watching Project Runway as I sketched out my own clothing designs on paper. I became enamored with classic fashion icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy and took their timeless style as inspiration that I use even today.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that fashion isn’t about “dressing to kill” every single day. It’s about dressing according to your personality and wearing what’s appropriate for each occasion and function. I also believe that you can tell a lot about someone’s personality based on what they wear. I am currently in love with ankle booties and skater skirts right now. Booties are very functional and easy to wear because the low heel is comfortable, yet stylish. They’re also very easy to dress up or down. Meanwhile, skater skirts are a simple way to make any outfit fun and flirty! Pair with a big cardigan to keep yourself warm and you’re set.
I am so excited to start posting articles on the latest fashion trends at Saint Vincent College. Catch a new article by me every Wednesday and never leave for class uninspired.
