Hello, users of the interweb! My name is Shanice. I’m your standard 21-year-old going through her very first early life crisis. My interests are literally everywhere, but as I get older I rein them in more and more to get a better sense of who I am and where I’m going. Who would’ve guessed it would land me here at CollegeFashionista! I was so shocked to get the position, but so very happy and eager to get started!
If I am allowed to speak (or type) openly, I must say, for the majority of my life, I was basic. Some of you may think of that as an insult, but it isn’t as it allows for room to grow, build and upgrade. Inspiration comes from all about and I found mine, last year, on my year abroad in Manchester, England.
I had never seen young people so stylish and beautiful. Whether it was on a night out or a lunch date, their outfits were impeccably chic, yet understated. The fashion had a late ’90s- early 2000s vibe to it that I instantly fell in love with. It was like being home. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY at that time and had quite the fashion sense in my childhood. But it seemed that I had lost my way. In high school, I rotated six pastel V-necks and 11-13 pairs of ill-fitting skinny jeans. Then, coming to the conclusion that I wanted to be more of a “girl”, I resorted to dressing like a knock-off Zooey Deschanel my freshman and sophomore years at UNCG.
As showcased in the above shots, I am moving up from my past fashion faux pas! Keeping with the ’90s feel, the top is perfectly oversized and flattering to any figure. I paired it with a black jean: a staple for any girl’s wardrobe. It mutes the boldness of the pattern, all the while, allowing it to be the star. Casually thrown on, these shoes add a bit of sass and height to the short girl, like myself.
Although being fashionable has not always been a constant in my life, one thing has been: writing. I used to write the world’s worst love songs from the tender age of seven to the tired age of 17 in hopes of reaching the masses through the written word. Now, I share bits of my life meanwhile tackling the harsh realities of society on my blog, still hoping to reach the masses through the written word. So, I guess that’s where my passion is: sharing parts of me and the human experience with others. I hope to share and inspire you with my fashion journey here at CollegeFashionista!
