Hey there Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Nicole Echevarria, and I’m a junior at the University of Miami. I am studying Elementary Education with a double minor in Public Relations and Advertising, and this is my second semester writing for CollegeFashionista.
Fashion has always been a constant in my life. Whether it was rummaging through my mother’s makeup bag to mix and match her lipsticks when I was little, or even insisting on wearing a Disney princess night gown to sleep every night, fashion has always been my forte.
Since then, my curiosity evolved into reading magazines such as the iconic Vogue, watching various documentaries on legends in the industry, following blogs such as Song of Style and The Man Repeller or even binge watching reality TV shows on some of my favorite networks such as E! and Bravo. I’ve also interned at Tara Ink., one of Miami’s hottest fashion public relations firms, and am currently a Campus Representative for Victoria’s Secret PINK and LF Stores. Fashion is always embedded in my daily routine someway, somehow.
Growing up I sort of led double-life, much the same as Hannah Montana at the time. Originally from Miami, I’ve always had a certain kick to my style that wasn’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea. Say for instance, when I moved to the suburbs of New York, where it’s gray for half the year and many of my classmates wore their flannel pajamas or the classic leggings, UGGs and a North Face to school. Visiting back to Miami monthly, this inherent small town style never matched the city girl like myself. Nevertheless, I realized that the styles of the suburbs were far different from the eclectic street styles of the people in New York City, thus my love for fashion only continued to grow with every trip there.
As the years went on I embraced many different styles, however, all of them stayed true to the spice of Miami with a twist of edge from the city. Despite my bold ways, my style is always progressing with an increased value for simplicity. There is a certain beauty in simplicity when it comes to style, that even if it’s mixed with a tinge of edge—the look remains classic.
The simplicity in my look is demonstrated through the plain gray top, however, the edgy twist plays into the look via the cut of the top. It’s cut with a high slit, perfect to wear over distressed high-waisted boyfriend jeans and fringe booties for an added flair. Paired with bold accessories such as a gold statement necklace, a gold watch and my gold cuff – this look is perfect for day to night and is one of my favorites to date.
