My name is Liz Lepore and I’m a sophomore. This is my second year as a Style Guru and I could not be more excited to continue. CollegeFashionista gives me an excuse to go out and take pictures of all the fashionable people on GW’s campus. According to legendary street style photographer Bill Cunningham, “The best fashion show is definitely on the street. Always has been, and always will be.” I could not agree more. As Style Gurus, we’re street-style photographers who document all of the trends. Here in D.C. I am constantly finding inspiration from the fashionistas (and fashionistos) on campus.
Personally, I’m at a bit of a crossroads with my own style. Growing up in Connecticut, I will always have a bit of prep in me, even when I’m wearing all-black like in this photo. No matter what, I never really look edgy, but that’s ok. Everyone has their own look that works for them. Since starting school in D.C., I’ve incorporated edgier pieces, like leather jackets and motorcycle boots (pictured). That being said, my preppy staples, such as cashmere sweaters, quilted vests and riding boots are still in rotation.
Personal style is about finding what works for you. I believe that personal style can be learned. It’s not necessarily something you’re born with. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my style since moving to the District. Free from the constraints of high school, I’m more comfortable trying out new looks to see what I really like. Don’t be afraid to experiment, Fashionistas.
