Well hello there, and happy 2015!
My name is Carina and I am a second year Management student at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I am delighted that I could be apart of this lovely community.
I became obsessed with fashion in high school, as most of my friends spent money on concert tickets, snacks and celebratory drinks, my allowances went to fashion magazines, clothing and accessories (especially sunglasses!). Teen Vogue was my ultimate bible throughout those five marvelous years, but now I read (and flip through ads of) Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar religiously. Being the “fashion buyer” for my own wardrobe, it is an essential and an enjoyment for me to read fashion magazines and fashion blogs regularly. For seasonal outfit inspirations, a few of my best-loved fashion blogs include CollegeFashionista (obviously), Carolines Mode, Le 21Ème and the Conveteur.
Traveling and shopping are my two favourite activities, because both of them allow me to notice what people are currently wearing and how they are styling each pieces for different seasons and trends. I believe our styles shift as the fashion industry evolves, and street styles reflect the trends that are in each season. In my eyes, my style icons, Olivia Palermo and Gigi Hadid present fashion trends like no others from street style to red carpet ready!
This winter underneath my parka is usually a leather jacket or a faux fur vest on top of a monochromatic T-shirt, long sleeve or knitted sweater, paired with dark denim or pants. Blanket scarfs and riding boots are a must in this weather, especially rain boots when I go back home to Vancouver. I tend to invest in comfortable and simple items that will last me at least a couple years, because I love playing around with old and new pieces.
I look forward to reading all Style Gurus’ articles and seeing all varieties of outfits around the world as I will post the latest trends at UBC-O every Tuesday!
