Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Catherine Silvernail and I am currently a sophomore at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, majoring in Fashion Merchandising. I am super excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista!
My passion for fashion began at a young age. Whether I was noticing what people were wearing or drawing pictures of what they might wear, I recognized early on that fashion affects how people feel about themselves and others. I soon became fascinated with the clothing in magazines, movies and online. Now I follow what designers send down the runway, what buyers put in my favorite stores and which trends people follow.
It’s hard for me to define my own personal style; however, I would say I stick to mostly classic and feminine pieces. When I go shopping, I look for clothing and accessories that are classic but in some way unique whether that be in silhouette, color, print, beading or embroidery. My favorite seasons to dress for are the fall and winter because I love to layer. Throwing on a simple or statement coat can really complete a look. This season I have especially loved wearing oversized plaid scarves because they are a great accent to many outfits and will keep you very warm.
I find so much inspiration in other people’s style because I am able to see fashion from a different perspective. I love looking on Pinterest, fashion blogs and to my peers to see what they are wearing and how they are styling the latest trends. Since first attending Marist, I have certainly been inspired to branch out and try new trends. Therefore, I am looking forward to scouting out and showcasing Marist College’s fashionable students this semester!
