STYLE GURU BIO: Sierra Cortner

I cannot believe that after this semester I will have completed half of my undergraduate career at Emory University. Wow! Not only does this seem unreal, but this tidbit of information will force me to go above and beyond while reporting for CollegeFashionista this spring. A new year, a new semester and a new set of trendsetters to scope out, right?

Apart from matters involving time, it was recently brought to my attention that there exists a documentary about the legendary Bill Cunningham: Bill Cunningham New York. A couple of weeks ago I downloaded the video and watched as this iconic photographer hunted for upcoming trends on the New York streets. From photographing “man, don’t those hurt?” stilettos to Iris Apfel’s flying saucer eyeglasses, the whole documentary is a treat to watch. However, it also brought out the competitive nature within me.

With 2015 right around the corner, I decided that my New Year’s resolution is to be a shameless “style stalker” (a term coined by the founders of Refinery29). Like the blue-coated man himself, Style Gurus preserve fashion history by documenting style choices from across the States. History is by no means a subject to be taken lightly, so I will make it my goal to seek Fashionistas/os that exemplify what it means to dress like an Emory student in 2015.

To commemorate Cunningham’s love for blue, I chose to wear this light-colored blazer over trousers adorned with a royal blue print. Silver oxford flats and a solid sweater pull my look together and maintain a grounded appearance. By paying closer attention to detail in my own wardrobe, I can improve my skills during my internship with CollegeFashionista.

Watch out Emory because I am ready for everyone’s return to campus. So, put your best foot forward, and make sure a chic Steve Madden bootie or a quirky oxford covers it.
