Hey, Fashionistas/os! I am thrilled to be a Style Guru for the very first time this semester. I’m a junior currently studying media communications (i.e. journalism) and public relations at Troy University in beautiful Alabama.
The first words people think of when I say I live in Alabama are redneck, country or just simply cowboy boots. I’m here to show Fashionistas/os around the world that Troy, Alabama is not simply backwoods style but instead a diverse, multicultural and unique set of individuals who attend Troy University from around the world.
However, I haven’t always been a “Bama” girl. I grew up near the warm, white beaches in the panhandle of Florida. A small town called Niceville (about ten minutes away from Destin) is where I call home. Throughout middle school and high school, I was always caught up with the latest trends but it wasn’t until college that I learned how to stand out and express myself through fashion.
I’ve always been fascinated by big cities and the flashing lights. Since I was a child, I remember daydreaming about what my life would be like and what I would do, where I would go and how I would get there. I felt like I had no direction. That is until I was 19-years-old. I don’t recall how it happened but one day, I decided I would change my major from graphic design to multimedia journalism and since that day, my life has never been the same.
As a journalism major, I’ve learned three very important things: I love to write, I love fashion and I enjoy meeting new people, especially stylish people. Thus, leading me to apply to be a Style Guru.
Amongst many other things I’ve learned, I also have learned the art of blogging. I run my own fashion blog, The Blonde Ensemble, where I post randomly about fashion, beauty and everything else in-between. I also fan-girl over Chiara Ferragini of The Blonde Salad.
Reading has also taken me to new levels in fashion design, photography and writing. Books, such as #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso or It by Alexa Chung, have influenced my mentality and fashion ability greatly.
I believe every individual has new information to share and knowledge to gain. The best thing about working in fashion communications is meeting individuals with style tips, tricks and wisdom to share. I always learn something new and I can easily spot out a Fashionista/o.
I look forward to reading, learning and sharing articles each week. I am excited to display not only my own style, but prove that no matter where you go (even Alabama), style is everywhere. Stay tuned each Tuesday for new posts! I can’t wait to learn and/or teach new things from all of you!
