Hi there, Fashionista/o! My name is Sabrina, and I am a student at Kent double majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing. With this being my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, I cannot be more excited to see what opportunities come my way and watch my writing and eye for fashion come to life.
As cheesy as it sounds… fashion honestly IS my passion. As I look back on my fashion tastes, from my first pair of high heels (pink zebra by Candie’s) to my now classic & minimalistic wardrobe that consists of way too much black and gray, fashion has grown with me. I love watching it evolve year after year and seeing how it keeps impacting the world. That’s what fashion does… it impacts the entire world through its ability to become a lifestyle. Fashion is a lifestyle and experience for everyone, and I love being a part of that.
I have lived in the same house my entire life, which happens to be in Valparaiso, Indiana, just an hour outside of the city I call home: Chicago. I can’t help but feel that the nights of walking Michigan Avenue, sparkling not only with the city lights but also my young eyes as I took in all of the fashions surrounding me, played a huge role in my pursuit to make fashion my career. My big goal in life is to be unique and remembered, and expressing that part of me through fashion is a challenge I look forward to everyday. As my mom says, “The original is always worth more than the copy.”
Besides fashion, I strive to live a simple life everyday. I can remember me back in the third grade, overthinking my little brain so much that I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night (I have outgrown that, thank the Lord). Over the years I have learned how to manage my busy mind and live a simplistic lifestyle that does not require the over-analyzing and dwelling that gets us no where. As my pappap used to tell me, “Thinking gets you in trouble.” Ain’t that the truth! Think less and feel more. With the help of Julia Daoud’s blog, Simply Jules, and some occasional yoga, I am starting to live by the lifestyle of simplicity.
I am so very excited that I get to share my obsession of fashion with the world through CollegeFashionista! Check back with me every Thursday to see what new and exciting things I happen to come across. Before we part, I want you to get to know me through more than the words on this page… here are a few of my favorite pieces from American Eagle Outfitters that describe me through clothing: baby T-shirt, cable knit, vintage boyfriend jeans, high-rise jeggings and gold jewelry.
