My name is Paula Volos and I’m a returning Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! This spring marks my second semester as a Style Guru and keeping this in mind, it shouldn’t be hard to understand why I am beyond excited to be back at this again. CollegeFashionista has been life changing in so many ways and I can honestly say that it is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
As this is a biography, it’s time to say a few things about myself. I’m 19 years old and I’m a sophomore majoring in English at CUNY Queens College. After I graduate school, I plan on pursuing a career in the fashion industry, as I can’t really see myself doing anything else. My life before college was relatively eventful. I was born in New York, but moved to this minuscule country called Cyprus when I was eight. I mostly dreaded every minute of living there, so as soon as I got the chance, I packed up my life and moved back to New York. Right now I’m in a serious relationship with Manhattan and my love for this city only keeps getting more profound as I’m kind of obsessed with every little thing it has to offer. Other obsessions of mine include coffee, Instagram, books, anything Marc Jacobs, bags and shoes. Lots of shoes (#NoShame). This semester I’ll also be a Marketing Intern for CollegeFashionista, which is something that I’m extremely thrilled for.
Ralph Lauren once said, “Fashion is about something that comes from within you.” I couldn’t agree more. To me, fashion is everything. Yes, you can now go ahead and say how cliché this sounds. If only it weren’t the truth. Fashion is self-expression, a way out of every day routine and a portrayal of one’s creativity. It shows the world who you are as a person and what you believe in without having to use words and these are probably the main reasons why fashion means so much to me. The delight I get from doing anything that has to do with fashion, or even from simply being around clothes, can’t be put into words.
I’d say that my style is a combination of different elements and that it all mostly depends on how I feel when I wake up. Even though it is constantly evolving, one thing that is always constant and that you need to know about the way I dress is that I hardly ever wear anything that isn’t black. I don’t know why, so don’t ask. Black is simply my thing and I don’t really see it changing anytime soon.
To sum it all up, I’m terribly content to be a Style Guru again this semester and I really hope that my past experience will only help me do better this time. Look for my posts every Thursday — I’ll try not to disappoint. I hope you’ll enjoy reading them as much as I’ll enjoy making them!
