STYLE GURU BIO: Martha Eelman

Hello, and happy new year all you stylish people! My name is Martha. I am a junior at Indiana University majoring in Apparel Merchandising with a minor in Business. This is my first semester as a Style Guru. I’m eager to share what the Fashionista/os have to offer from good ole Indiana! Hey, we’re not all corn farmers!

I’ve gone through many style phases: the tomboy, the punk, the prep, the hipster. You know how it goes. Personal style has always been my favorite form of self expression. Something about dressing up a pair of bell bottoms brightens my mood on the gloomiest of days. Fashion is an empowering thing. I am constantly inspired by everything from everyday street style to personal style bloggers. The fashion community is so diverse and influential that there is always something to spark new ideas.

My personal style is hard to pinpoint as it evolves everyday. These days it’s impossible for me to pass up a good bargain. Just this past month I purchased a gold velvet maxi skirt for $20. Why? I have no idea. I just knew I had to have it. I must say I am an avid Free People shopper. A Goodwill adventure is always fun too! Most often I go for a bohemian look with layers or ruffles (or both!). I like to mix rainbow leggings with graphic T-shirts on lazy days.

There are exciting times coming this semester as the weather gets chillier and then warms up again! I’m looking forward to capturing some fluffy coats, and shorter lengths as spring approaches. I can’t wait to share with you all the variety Indiana University’s students offer.
