Hello my fellow fashion lovers! My name is Megan Peckhem and I am a second year fashion merchandising major with a minor in fashion media at Kent State University. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista and I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity. I learned about CollegeFashionista my first semester in the fashion program. A fellow Fashionista came into one of my classes and talked about this internship. Right when I got back to my dorm, I got online straight away and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I have always loved fashion. Starting in middle school, I remember taking hours upon hours to pick out the most perfect outfit to wear to school. Still to this day, picking out my outfit is my favorite part of my day. I love how people can express themselves through their personal style. There are so many unique and interesting people out there and I can’t wait to capture their style for you Fashionistas and Fashionistos to see.
When I first came to Kent State, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my future. I started off doing Interior Design, but I was really unhappy in the program. I knew I wanted to do something involving fashion, but I never thought I could make a career out of something I considered a hobby. Now, being in the fashion merchandising program, I have never been happier. It’s a wonderful feeling when you completely enjoy everything about what you do. One of my favorite quotes is “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I strongly believe in this and I can not wait to see what my futures holds in the fashion world.
My style ranges from feminine all the way to grunge. I just love switching up my style and keeping all my peers guessing. One of my favorite things to do is hit up the nearest thrift store and see what treasures I can find. I love creating new looks by mixing my thrift store finds with garments I find at some of my favorite stores like Free People, Nordstrom and Topshop. For this look, I’m wearing a floral kimono over a laced Peter Pan collar top tucked into a basic black skater skirt. I love how simplistic the garments are on their own, yet when all put together they make a statement.
I’m so excited to see what this semester will bring with CollegeFashionista. Keep a lookout on Fridays to see the unique styles of the Fashionistas/os I discover here at Kent State!
