Hello my lovely Fashionistas/os!! My name is Amber Carlson, and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This is my first semester interning at CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru and I could not be more excited to share my love for all things fashion! To me, fashion is not just clothes, shoes and accessories; it is the most unique form of self-expression a person can have. People can learn so much about you simply based on the outfits you put together. I am always captivated by the way a story can be told without a single spoken word.
I have had an obsession with the fashion world for as long as I can remember. It started like any other girl who spent her childhood playing dress up with anything she could find within her mother’s closet. Since I grew up as the oldest child with only a little brother to play with, he had to suffer through a few fashion shows and makeovers as a little kid. I mean, a girl has to work with what she has, right? Luckily for him, my obsession with clothes and dressing up grew into a love for shopping with my mom and friends and helping them find the perfect outfits.
Having grown up in a small town, I always struggled with truly being able to embrace my love for fashion. It took me a couple years into high school to gain the confidence to wear the outfits that I loved and wanted to show off. I was just never in an environment that appreciated fashion in the same way I did. I was also concerned as to how I would be able to kick start my fashion career coming from a small town in Wisconsin; the day when I stumbled across CollegeFashionista, I knew that I had to become a part of it. This seemed like the perfect introduction into the fashion career I have always dreamed of. Of course, I still dream/plan to graduate college and move to New York to pursue my career in fashion, but this amazing opportunity will give me the kickstart that I had worried I wouldn’t find.
Since moving to Madison for college, I have been able to completely embrace my love of fashion into an evolving personal style. Although it is ever-changing right now, my style revolves around basic pieces that can be layered, sheer pieces and comfy cardigans. Not only has my personal style developed, but I have also learned to recognize all of the amazing style around me and I cannot wait to share all my discoveries around Madison with you all this semester. That being said, be sure to check back with me every Friday this semester to see what fun new styles I have found for you!
