This past year, many of you definitely have witnessed much of the “matching set” trend from spring 2014 all the way into the fall/winter 2014 ready-to-wear lines. Abstract, vibrant prints on matching abstract, vibrant prints; bold satin florals on matching bold satin florals, to cropped plaid tops paired with matching high-waisted plaid trousers as the year progressed.
In retrospect, maybe Cher Horowitz and Dionne Davenport had been ahead of us all along, minus the sailor hats and obnoxiously fuzzy fur cuffs of course!
Trendy one decade, lost in another and re-invented in the next –– I truly am loving the current (and much more body flattering) new takes on an old but iconic trend. Iggy Azalea and Taylor Swift would proudly agree with me on this one.
However, when or if this “matchy-matchy” trend turns passé in the near future, there is always one match that will never fail us till the end of time: “black on black.”
Here, I am particularly obsessed with this Fashionista’s nearly all black outfit. The soft pebble grain of her slouchy black Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Francesca Tote juxtaposed against her rough textured black leather moto jacket with rib-knit panels under the sleeves, numerous side zips and quilted detailing is just perfect. I am a HUGE fan of leather on leather. To add to this edgy look, she sports a Rolling Stones graphic T-shirt and black, low-heel suede booties. What ultimately tops the cake is the red coloring of both her jacket’s lining and the T-shirt’s graphics that greatly accentuate her red ombré highlights and warm-toned makeup!
For all we know, this Fashionista could just be the daughter of a rock ‘n’ roll legend. Either that, or she could be one herself! #LegendInTheMaking

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Consistent black is a trend that will stay for generations to come. Try to keep it interesting by playing up the texture in any and every all black outfit, and maybe incorporate some subtle color-blocking into the look as well!”
