The Joie fall ready-to-wear show emulated effortless yet feminine charm. This collection was composed of creams, neutrals and pops of bright colors here and there. The use of knits and oversized jackets attracted me to this collection and made me want to incorporate more chunky wool sweaters into my wardrobe. There were many girlish skirts and dresses paired with structured jackets that made for a cohesive look. Some of the looks were paired with either knit black or gray tights and opened toed shoes. This gave each outfit a beautiful innocent look.
The knits and neutrals from this collection inspired this outfit. I have a black A-line skirt, knit tights and Mary Jane heels that add femininity. I chose to pair a cream knit cowl neck sweater to add more brightness to the outfit. For an extra layer I added a black peacoat. For my accessories I have on light pink earrings and a black cross body Marc by Marc Jacobs bag.
The use of neutrals is a powerful tool for outfits. Neutral clothing can stand on its own against the wash of technicolor but it can also work along side the bright primary colors to enhance the look and feel of an outfit. My outfit shows how cream and black knits can work with each other. Neutrals are not boring. They add a polished and simple expression to any look.
In the future I may take a risk and pair one of these neutral items with a bright colored item, such as cobalt or pink, to accent neutral and color interplay. But as far as I know, neutrals are not dead!
