They may be at the back of many Fashionistas’ closets, but olive military jackets are about to take center stage once again! Rebecca Minkoff’s pre-fall 2015 collection features great variations on the classic green staple, with varying cuts and embellishments, like brass buttons. This oversized coat in particular caught my eye, and I was fortunate enough to find a look alike in my sister’s closet. I had been carefully experimenting with different winter looks, but this seemed like the ideal centerpiece. Thus came my inspiration for the perfect winter outfit!
I immediately thought my favorite felt hat would complement the jacket well. Together, the pieces created a vibe that was part militaristic and part hardboiled detective. I thought these details reflected Minkoff’s aesthetic, but I also wanted to keep some elements of my outfit classically feminine. I picked out a dainty pair of floral shorts, but paired them with tights to keep out the chill! For extra seasonal points, I picked out an edgy marsala sweater that helped highlight the floral details. I had concerns that the olive and marsala would look like a Christmas color overload, but that wasn’t the case! Together, the pieces looked polished while maintaining a sense of timelessness.
I topped the outfit off with three of my most trusted accessories. A metal necklace added some shimmer, while ankle booties and my small black clutch contributed stylish practicality. Being that they are both leather, their textures matched while their colors provided nice variations. The clutch holds just enough and the jacket has tons of pockets for any pesky extras!
This look will be perfect for chilly walks to class, coffee runs, days at work and Fashionista scoping! I’m glad that Minkoff is bringing back the beloved olive jacket, and I can’t wait to see more popping up around campus.
