STYLE GURU STYLE: Check Out Hand-Knits

Daks by Giles Deacon spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection was a real eye-catcher. I couldn’t help but notice the diverse color schemes that went down the runway with each look. Filipino Scuffi, creative director of Daks by Giles Deacon, arranged his models with color in mind. His first looks were all about purple, and his last looks showcased a diverse palette of blues and whites. Out of them all, the first ensemble caught my eye as something that can be translated from runway fashion to street style fashion. This model grazed the runway with a pair of skinny mauve leather trousers and an ethereal gray kimono-sleeve dress.

In New England, our winters tend to be extremely frigid. The greatest battle is maintaining style whilst and trying to keep warm. Fashionistas/os can achieve this goal by adhering to these few simple changes: swap those flats for some knee-high boots, replace the midriff-baring kimono-sleeve dress with a free-flowing poncho and wrap a purple scarf around your neck for some extra warmth and style. Also, a layer of Le Métier de Beaute Liquid Precision Eyeliner can give your eyes (and your whole look) a strong, commanding presence that is sought after by the model when she walks down the runway.

As a rule, the high fashion runway shows can look intimating to some, but with some improvisation you can create a powerful look appropriate for the college scene. Just use your imagination and don’t be afraid to experiment.

Get My Look: 1. Some snazzy knee-high boots. 2. A free-flowing poncho. 3. A hand-woven purple scarf.
