A collection that has inspired my winter wardrobe this year is Nicolas Ghesquière’s first show for Louis Vuitton fall/winter 2014. The line was full of leather coats with wide collars, A-line mini skirts, belted waists and leather booties which clued a 1960s vibe. There were a lot of skins used, a lot of suede and leather, Ghesquière even made a luxurious black crocodile coat and the textiles used varied from decorative tweeds to beautiful thick wovens. I love the leather theme of the collection and it has inspired me to incorporate more leather into my wardrobe. The color scheme was full of burnt fall colors which I love; it’s a great way to brighten up the staple dark colors which consume many closets during the cold winter months. What I love about this collection is that while the style is very 60s era, all of the pieces can be incorporated to the modern woman’s wardrobe. I also liked how simple the outfits were, the models wore minimal jewelry and accessories which allowed the eye to admire Ghesquière’s beautiful craftsmanship. I’m a huge fan of ’60s fashions so this collection was a home run for me.
Today I incorporated my favorite elements of Ghesquière’s fall/winter 2014 collection into something of my own. I sported my favorite burnt fall colors in a burgundy top and a gold pleated A-line mini skirt. I paired that with my favorite black faux leather moto jacket and booties with burgundy ankle socks to pull the whole outfit together. Pairing a bold jacket and shoes with a more casual ensemble underneath allows the outfit to be worn for a variety of different occasions, such as going to class or out to lunch. Booties are always great way to go because they’re stylish, super comfortable and the heel gives the outfit a little added oomph. Wearing simple jewelry helps accentuate the bold, leather fabrics without overwhelming the senses.
This fall 2014 collection has inspired me to incorporate different fabrics into my outfits; leather and suede can help add depth to any wardrobe. As well as, to add bright seasonal colors into the monotonous gray and black which are easy go-tos this time of year. Wearing bright colors in the winter doesn’t just look great, they can also help psychologically, to brighten your mood when you haven’t seen the sun in months!
