One of my fashion resolutions for the new year is to play with patterns. Solid colors make up most of my wardrobe and I want to mix it up in 2015. This is why I was so inspired by Paule Ka’s pre-fall 2015 show. The collection is the perfect introduction to inserting patterns into my everyday wardrobe. I love how the collection pairs simple colors like black, navy and red with classic prints. Paule Ka’s collection is a chic take on the ‘60s. The shapes and bold patterns are straight out of an Audrey Hepburn movie, but paired with jackets, leather and sporty shoes, the collection takes on a cool, modern attitude of it’s own. I love it.
Today, I decided to use this look to guide me in conquering my resolution. I paired a plaid skirt from Forever 21 with a solid burgundy sweater. This style of plaid is the perfect way to make the outfit my own and show off my love of ‘90s fashion. Does this skirt belong in the crowd of a Nirvana concert 20 years ago or what? I added my favorite suede bomber jacket from a local thrift store to recreate the careless cool from Paule Ka’s look. Knee-high socks finish off my outfit for an additional ode to the ‘60s and to cover up my pale, cold legs during winter.
In the past, I’ve shied away from patterns because I worry they won’t look chic and clean. Maybe I’m still scarred from the plaid teal and yellow jumper I wore almost every day of kindergarten. After seeing this show though, I am no longer afraid. Patterns can totally spice up my solid color wardrobe and take it to a new level of clean, cool and chic. I’m so excited to see what other ways I can incorporate bolder patterns into my style this season!
