STYLE GURU STYLE: The Statement Coat

As we’re all heading back to campus soon, I’m sure you’re thinking of the many layers to be piled on for that 20 minute walk to class! This winter’s breeze will chill you to the bone. Hence I found myself attracted to Burberry Prorsum’s pre-fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Nearly every outfit has a statement outerwear piece pulling together each ensemble. What I loved most about the collection was the range of textures and colors, from cropped moto leather jackets to a knee length cashmere coat. The ready-to-wear collection killed it with its combination of delicate dresses and heavy pieces, my favorite duo as I can’t give up summer styles. While we’re all trying to stay warm and fabulous, Burberry has reminded us that it’s okay to wear our coats all day long.

Well for starters, it was seven degrees out today. I wanted to recreate the statement coat trend in a way that kept me warm and comfortable. When the gears begun to grind in my head I decided a mix of feminine, slightly monochromatic and a hint of edginess would do the trick. I knew I wanted to create my outfit around this peacoat. Pairing it with a similar shade sweater gives the outfit a very clean, feminine look. White pants were added to keep the emphasis on the pink palette. The black accessories complete the look with a daring shape and strong color contrast. I am attached to these boots because they seem to enhance everything! The pointed toe can make an outfit casual or lavish, plus the slight heel gives length to the body.

I know it’s difficult for us Fashionista/os to wear such simple outfits. Don’t forget that monochromatic is trending and this weather is perfect to whip out that statement coat.

Get My Look: 1. An oversized pink statement coat. 2. A cozy sweater in multiple colors. 3. Classic black boot.
