STYLE GURU STYLE: Plaid

One particular morning this week, while participating in my daily fashion binges, I ran across the Novis fall 2014 ready-to-wear line. I myself have always been an individual to gravitate towards plaid; especially ones with masculine silhouettes. There’s something about that grungy laid back look that speaks to my personal style. I was also attracted to how unique the patterns in the line were and how extremely different pieces were paired together. Designer, Jordana Warmflash, expresses her sense of expression heavily throughout the line, gaining inspiration from artist Paul Klee. I decided to take the inspiration I gained from the line and translate it into my own style.

Instead of translating it into the ’90s grunge way, that I would typically do, I decided to try a style that’s a little different from mine. The line is relaxed, so I chose to dress it up a bit. I incorporated the plaid into my skirt instead of my top; channeling my inner Cher (knee socks included). At this point, I am pushing the line between a dressy outfit and an everyday look, but with the incorporation of the knitted sweater and the oxford flats, instead of heels, I made the outfit more appropriate for a simple “getting cute for class” look. I completed the look with my quilted Burberry jacket to keep me stylish and warm at the same time. I would describe this style as girly, which is a style I’m slowly starting to adapt to.

Although plaid is a typical pattern in my personal style, seeing that Novis collection made me want to dress my plaids up in a different way. Plaid is such a versatile print that can honestly be used for any style, and is a must have for any Fashionista/o’s wardrobe!
