FASHION FROM ABROAD: Exploring In Style

Ciao Fashionistas/os! I have been lucky enough to be taking a class in the gorgeous city of Florence, Italy over my winter break. For the next two weeks, I will be reporting on style from abroad.

Florence in the winter is much different than it is back home in the Midwest. Temperatures are very mild and typically range from the high 40’s to mid to high 50’s. Snow boots, big coats and wool mittens are not necessary, especially when the main form of transportation for international students is walking. You get warm pretty quickly, even on the colder mornings. When heading out to class or other cultural excursions, dressing in light layers is really the way to go. If you want your outfit to scream, “I am obviously an American student,” then throw on your favorite T-shirt and hoodie. Conversely, if you wish to blend in with the fashionable women of Florence, it is best to try chicer, but equally comfortable options. Save your hoodie for the plane ride home, and opt for a cardigan, kimono or maybe even a poncho or shawl.

This Fashionista wears a deep purple kimono with black fringe detailing on the bottom and sleeves. Paired with this are black leggings and tall brown boots. To top off this stylish ensemble, she wears a black hat and infinity scarf, along with multiple silver bracelets. Her outfit has the perfect balance of chic and comfort, allowing her to have a full day of exploring, while still looking stylish.
