Although most commonly associated with long-haired free spirits of the ‘70s, fringe has forged a place for itself in 2010s fashion. This effortlessly cool trend made its comeback a few seasons ago and has hung around ever since. We’ve seen fringe adorned on items such as boots and handbags, but this Fashionisto went full hippie with a suede statement jacket.
My favorite thing about this Fashionisto’s look is the way in which he was able to perfectly combine vintage and modern elements. Rather than coupling the fringe jacket with blue jeans and appear costume-y, he kept things cool with these stone white denim pants. The button-up shirt keeps the outfit from becoming too casual, and the contemporary Western pattern catches the eye as it peeks out from under the jacket. He also sported a tan pair of stylish sneakers to complement the suede color of the jacket. To finish off the outfit, this Fashionisto added some detail with a leather watch that had a large industrial face.
I think this trend has managed to stay in style for so long because it can be worn in a countless number of ways. Fringe has evolved in tandem with the capricious fashion world by finding ways to range from subtle to very bold. Whether you choose to stick to just rocking fringe on a pair of moccasin booties or take a risk on a statement piece like this jacket, you’ll definitely be turning heads all across campus.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t limit yourself to one style. Don’t think, ‘I can only fit one archetype.’ Be the art school punk, the Ivy League prep and everything in-between.”
