Let’s face it; most runway trends are only meant to be worn on the catwalk. While most of us can appreciate couture ensembles with architectural shoulders and exaggerated silhouettes, we never follow them precisely as they’re shown on the runway. I felt the same way, until I discovered the Ralph Lauren pre-fall 2015 collection. Every garment is ready to wear as is and each look features a closet staple that can be infused into your everyday wardrobe. If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself!
Amazing, right?
Lauren took a step back from his signature aspects and focused on a more minimal approach to his classic designs. He blends an assortment of tailored trousers with ribbed knit sweaters, knee-length dresses and structured jackets that accentuate the waist to create an assembly of modern looks. As the show progresses, he remains consistent with fringe decorations and a strict color palette of beige and ivory. Being the minimalist that I am, I was truly amazed by the craftsmanship of his work and the overall attention to details.
Inspired by Lauren’s show, I managed to create a similar look on one of the rare cold days in Florida. I used his cashmere double-breasted jacket as the foundation of my look. My wrap camel coat is matched with a cream turtleneck, nude heels and a tan purse to mimic the neutral contrast in his collection. The coat is a must-have trend that can seamlessly transition into any occasion. It can be dressed up with a fitted top and a pencil skirt or dressed down with distressed denim jeans. Either way, the options are endless.
If you buy one coat this season, make it camel. Invest now and you’ll wear it forever.
