A few years ago, embroidered denim made space for distressed denim. I remember falling in love with all the ripped and torn jeans that came down the Balmain spring 2009 show. The jeans were beautiful but the outfits were, and still, are a little too glam for me. I decided to draw inspiration instead from the pre-fall 2015 show by Band of Outsiders. The collection also included denim and similar fabrics, but in a more casual way.
Band of Outsiders is one of my favorites for everyday style inspiration. The looks sent down the runway are usually very wearable. The recent pre-fall show by the line featured several denim-based looks, most of which were constructed with tailored pieces like the classic blazer. I used the two elements of denim and tailored silhouettes from the show to put my outfit together.
I wore a pair of relaxed and slightly distressed denim with my favorite chunky knit sweater. I topped the look off with a wardrobe staple: the black blazer. With a pastel statement necklace and some ankle-strap heels, I dressed up my look. Finally, to keep my head and feet warm, I sported a simple beanie and some mint socks to match my necklace.
Since denim is such a norm in my daily outfits, I decided to dress my look up a bit more than usual. The show struck a perfect balance between fashion-forward and comfortable, and I tried to achieve that effect. Not wanting to veer too far from my source of inspiration, however, I kept things semi-casual by opting for distressed denim. This is exactly why I love denim so much; it has the potential to be really dressed down while also having the versatility to be extremely fancy. Now I understand why some people have pairs of jeans in numbers in the teens or higher. There is no end to how denim can be styled and worn.
Get My Look: 1. Lightly ripped jeans. 2. A thick-knit sweater. 3. A blazer.
