The semester is officially in full swing on Rocky Top. No longer are the days of relaxing with hot chocolate and a good book or spending time with family and friends on weekday afternoons. While we can reminisce on winter break, the reality is that we’re all back at school. Oh, and don’t forget that we’re also freezing.
Admittedly, it doesn’t get nearly as cold in Knoxville as it does in Chicago or Syracuse (shout out to those Style Gurus photographing in the cold weather!). But that doesn’t mean the cold winter temperatures and bone-chilling wind don’t make a difference in the way UT students dress because it certainly does. Sometimes it just seems like layers of leggings and your favorite sweater are the only option, but this Fashionisto proves that cold weather is just another excuse to express your personal style.
I spotted this Fashionisto by Hodges Library in graphic camouflage pants, a pink button-down and a black peacoat. This combination, although unexpected, totally works with his preppy yet trendy personal style. Also, to keep warm he layered an insulated jacket under his coat—an extra precaution for long walks around campus. In terms of accessories, he reached for his classic Jordan True Flight sneakers and maintained the basketball-style influence with a Miami Heat beanie.
It’s easy to rule out getting dressed up, especially on super cold days. Trust me, we’ve all been there and done that, but don’t let the cold weather limit your personal expression through style. Throw on an extra layer, like a warm jacket, and add some fun accessories, like a stylish beanie and a knit scarf. No need to let the cold weather get you and your style down.
One Simple Change: If you’re more of a bohemian type, leave the beanie at home and switch the sneakers for a pair of sleek desert boots for a casual date night.
