Come winter, it’s easy to find yourself wanting to snuggle up in a toasty down jacket and leggings. However, some days you just have to spruce up your look whether it’s for a class presentation or a night out with the girls. So what’s a girl to do when she’d rather snuggle into bed with a hot cup of tea than fashionably face the arctic temperatures? The answer: incorporate leather details into her look. Not only are these trendy details a must for every closet, but they are so versatile that they provide both Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike the opportunity to step up their street style game.
This Fashionista rocks leather detailing. From the stitching on her woolen biker jacket to the accents on her pants, using small hints of leather give her look an edge that isn’t overwhelming. Instead of bombarding the eye with a leather on leather combination, she instead opted for the practicality of denim and wool to combat the frigid January air. She wasn’t afraid to experiment with fabrics, which paid off in a look that can be worn both in the classroom and on a movie date with that special someone. The leather accents on her pants slim her figure while also bringing attention to her curves. To polish off her look, she used a pillar box, red cross-body bag and turquoise jewelry to provide unexpectedly beautiful pops of colors against the dark background of her look.
The biker jacket is my favorite piece. The combination of fur, leather and wool is reminiscent of Emporio Armani’s fall-winter 2010/2011 collection in which the designer experimented with large leather and fur pieces to create funky looks. What I love most about the jacket featured above is the versatility of the piece; it can be used to dress up or dress down any outfit. Edginess is effortlessly achievable with a jacket like this one.
How To: Not quite sure how to incorporate leather into your look? If you’re wanting to imitate a rock-and-roll vibe, pair black leather leggings with ankle boots and a shirt of your choice (a solid or graphic shirt both work). For a more conservative outfit, I recommend pairing leather combat boots with a skinny or straight leg jean and an oversized sweater. An adorable faux leather, cross-body bag can always lend you a helping hand when you’re in a rush!
