It is clear that Joseph Altuzarra is a genius for making workwear less boring. His designs are always elevated and classic, yet sexy. This was the tone in the Altuzarra 2015 spring ready-to-wear collection. Season after season, I look at Altuzarra’s designs and can’t help but feel that I want to be the woman he designs for. His designs symbolize a powerful woman who is comfortable in her own skin. After all, this is who I want to be and what I want to embody when I get into my career.
I decided to take one of his inspirational looks for a spin. This season, the collection turned to more day-time tones that can be used in a more casual environment. I am not used to wearing neutral tones, so this was a refreshing experience. I paired a striped skirt with a slit in a shorter length to make the look younger. Rather than pairing it with a long-sleeve, button-up shirt, I chose to combine it with a mustard, short-sleeve blouse. I felt that a shorter sleeve would be more college appropriate for the spring semester. The combination still speaks classic and refined, yet age appropriate as well. To complete the look, I added a brown belt and brown sandals with some gem stones and metallic details. The dimension added by the metallic details make the look more fun. I added a bucket bag to make the look more relevant to our current trends. I paired quite a bit of brown leather items to compensate for the suede blouse used on the runway. Of course for the final touch, I chose a pair of classic sunnies to help me spot some Fashionista/os on campus!
After being such a huge fan of Joseph Altuzarra’s designs, I am glad I finally was able to recreate one of the spring 2015 collection looks. I know that in the future, I will continue to combine my personal style with inspiration from the runway.
