STYLE GURU STYLE: Tweed Is The New Leather

When I think of Chanel the first thing that comes to mind is tweed, and lots of it. Chanel’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear fashion show left me in awe with the tweed and patterned combinations. It’s a hard feat to make such a classic and vintage style so modern and chic, but not for Chanel. Many will remember this iconic fashion show by the feminist protest that Karl Lagerfeld organized post show. The pieces in the show were very masculine in structure but feminine and light in fabric and color use. The show presented everything from tweed suits to floral accent skirts and tops.

I channeled my inner Chanel and threw on my favorite tweed double-breasted jacket and combined it with a high-wasted plaid skirt on the bottom and a graphic T-shirt on top. The two patterns separated would appear very different, but together are a match made in heaven. I admire Chanel’s ability to think outside of the box when it comes to choosing complementary patterns. While choosing my outfit, I asked my self “What patterns would Karl choose?”

Per usual, Chanel has inspired me to act outside of my comfort zone of matching solids with patterns and mix it up with the plaid and the tweed. I cannot lie, I was unsure of the combination at first, but once I was dressed, I fell in love with the look. The black tights really helped the patterns mesh well since they matched colors of the fabric in both pieces. The graphic T-shirt made the outfit casual enough for campus and the boots added a little bit of edge to the outfit as well.
